Longtime Chatham Resident, Grandmother Dies at 93

Kathleen Himmel may have been a native of Ireland, but Chatham was home for the last 30 years.

The retired nurse died recently at the age of 93.

Born in Tuam Galway, Ireland, Himmel moved to America in 1938 at the age of 17. She lived in the Bronx and Queens before moving to Chatham more than three decades ago.

She was an LPN and worked for many years at Flushing Hospital until her retirement in 1981.

She is predeceased by Francis Himmel and is survived by three daughters, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
