NJ Blizzard Blackout: 16K Without Power Sunday Afternoon

Ocean, Cape May counties hardest hit.

The snow has stopped falling and recovery efforts are underway, but for more than 16,800 New Jersey residents the power is still out.

As of 1 p.m. Sunday the state’s three electric utility providers were reporting a variety of outages but had one similarity: the shore and southern part of the state were still suffering the most.

Jersey Central Power & Light reported 2,984 total outages in its coverage area, with 2,782 in Ocean County.

Atlantic City Electric reported 13,724 outages with 11,576 in Cape May County and another 1,160 in Ocean County.

PSE&G fared the best, just as it did Saturday, reporting only 161 outages. That brings the grand total to 16,869 homes currently in the dark in New Jersey.

The blizzard of 2016 dumped as much as three feet of snow on some towns in northern New Jersey, and brought heavy precipitation, accompanied by flood waters from the sea, to create mass flooding in towns like Barnegat and Ocean City.
