Recycle Your Christmas Tree In Chatham Borough

CHATHAM, NJ — Are you about to take down your freshly cut Christmas tree but don't know what to do with it now that the holiday season has passed?

Chatham Borough will once again be hosting a free, live Christmas tree recycling program, which is available to all residents starting on Jan. 3.

Residents interested in participating in the recycling program are reminded that all lights, garlands, ornaments, stands and any other objects from the tree should be removed before placing it curbside.

Fire officials recommend that live trees be disposed of after Christmas or when they become dry. According to the National Fire Protection Association, dried-out trees pose a fire hazard and can burn much faster than watered trees.

Christmas trees will also be accepted at the Madison Borough Recycling Center on Saturdays between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. from Jan. 7 to Feb. 4.
