CHATHAM, NJ — Road work has officially begun on Watchung Avenue between Fairmount Avenue and Lafayette Avenue, according to police.

Police have not specified an official end date for the construction work, which is expected to last several weeks.

Morris County officials will be replacing catch basins and manholes along with milling and paving the roadway from Chatham Township to Chatham Borough in the coming weeks, police said.

While construction is underway, there will be some alternating traffic patterns to ensure the work zone is managed safely.

Police have asked all motorists to plan an alternate route if possible.
