Seeing Eye Puppies Visit Chatham With Their Trainers
Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers were among the breeds of the pups in-training, who were part of the event.
CHATHAM, NJ — Seeing eye puppies who are part of the 4-H Seeing Eye Puppy Raising Project recently visited Chatham for a special program hosted by the Library of the Chathams.
The puppies, when they’ve completed their training and have reached the appropriate age to start, will work with The Seeing Eye in Morristown and be paired with a blind person as their guide dog.
The dog breeds varied, from Golden Retrievers to German Shepherds to Labrador Retrievers among them.

As part of the program, attendees learned how they too could become a foster family for a seeing eye puppy.
Scoops The Chatham Creamery stopped by to visit the dogs and grabbed some video of the pups giving a demonstration of what they’ve learned so far, as they were being walked through the audience on the library’s lawn.

During the exercise, it was explained the puppies were walked, as part of their training, so they were each on their trainer’s left side.
People who attended, many of them in family groups, relaxed in chairs and on blankets while enjoying the program.
