Stolen Car With Woman Sleeping In Back Seat Found In Chatham Twp.: Cops

Officers responded to suspicious vehicle parked on shoulder of the roadway, police report.

CHATHAM TWP., N.J. – Chatham Township police arrested a woman from Newark who decided to take a nap in the car she allegedly stole the day before, police said.

At 6:02 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, Officers David Gallo and Ronald Anderson responded to the 400 block of Shunpike Road for a suspicious vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road, Chief Steven Hennelly said.

The officers then found someone sleeping in the back seat, and learned through an investigation that person was Tasjanae Johnson, 21, of Newark, Hennelly said.

The vehicle Johnson was in was a 2000 Dodge Caravan and had been reported missing the previous day in Newark.

Johnson was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of marijuana, and an active arrest warrant out of the City of Orange.

Johnson was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $3,500.
