Truck Strikes Bridge, Drops Pipes on Watchung Ave.
The driver was uninjured, but three large pipes were strewn onto the roadway.
Three large pipes fell off a truck onto Watchung Avenue Monday morning when the vehicle struck a railroad bridge overpass between River Road and Girard Avenue.
The driver of the truck was uninjured in the accident that occurred at 7:56 a.m., police said. The load on the truck was too tall to pass through the 11-foot-4 space under the bridge, police said.
Sgt. Scott A. O'Connor and Officer Richard Jaremba, of the Chatham Borough Police Department, responded to the scene at approximately 8:12 a.m.

By 8:30 a.m., DeFalco's Towing was present at the scene and the three pipes had been moved into a single lane. The truck that had carried the pipes appeared to have been removed from the scene.
Police directed one lane of traffic at a time through until the pipes were removed from the road.
