High Winds, Heavy Rain Possible As Severe Storms Enter South Jersey: NWS

Forecasters issued a severe thunderstorm warning, and said this line of storms could bring 60 mph winds, heavy rain and quarter-sized hail.

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ — Strong storms with torrential rain and winds of up to 60 miles per hour are likely in parts of South Jersey on Saturday evening, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 7:15 p.m. for Camden, Gloucester, and Cumberland counties, as well as northwestern Burlington County and northern Salem County.

Forecasters said "torrential rainfall" is expected with this line of storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Quarter-sized hail and strong wind gusts are also possible.

"In addition to large hail and damaging winds, frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms," NWS officials said. "Move indoors immediately. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning."
