Increased Police Presence At Cherry Hill Mall For Day After Christmas
The mall has traditionally tightened security the day after Christmas after a large-scale gathering of disorderly youths.
CHERRY HILL, NJ — Police will increase their presence Friday at Cherry Hill Mall, in line with the mall's tradition of tightening security the day after Christmas.
Officer will be working alongside mall security throughout the day the help maintain a "safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for shoppers, employees, and visitors during the busy holiday period," said a statement from the Cherry Hill Police Department.
"Our goal is simple: visibility, accessibility, and community safety," the statement continued. "Officers will be available to assist the public, address concerns, and help ensure everyone has a positive shopping experience."

The day after Christmas is one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
In recent years, Cherry Hill Mall has prohibited unaccompanied children during peak hours on the day after Christmas. The policy stems from a Dec. 26, 2017, incident in which hundreds of minors became unruly inside the crowded mall. Five of them were charged with offenses including disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

But earlier this year, the mall extended the ban to peak hours on Saturdays. The policy change was introduced two weeks after a fight at Cherry Hill Mall. Two people were injured in the altercation between two groups of primarily minors, according to police.
Cherry Hill Mall will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
