Hunter Finds Remains Of Missing South Jersey Man In Wharton State Forest

A hunter found the remains of Peter Meyers, 68, in a remote part of the forest. Meyers had been missing from Cherry Hill since June.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — A hunter found the remains of a Cherry Hill man reported missing several months ago in a remote part of the Wharton State Forest, officials said.

Peter Meyers, 68, was reported missing to the Cherry Hill Police Department by family members on June 7, 2022, Cherry Hill police said in a statement. His vehicle was found abandoned on a dirt access road leading to the Waterford section, prompting a mass search in June and July from the Cherry Hill Police Department and the New Jersey State Park Police with the help of the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit, the Camden County Search and Rescue Team, and the Waterford Township Police Department.

“No signs of Peter Meyers or clues as to his whereabouts were located” at the time, Cherry Hill police said.

Last Tuesday, however, a hunter discovered what looked like human skeletal remains in a remote section of the forest and contacted Waterford police.

Authorities later identified the remains as those of Meyers. A cause of death has yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.

Peter Meyers was last seen leaving where he worked — Resintech at 1801 Federal St. in Camden — on June 3, according to a previous Patch report. His abandoned vehicle was found on an unpaved roadway in the Waterford Township area and a family member reported him missing on June 8, according to police.
