Card Skimmer Found At Camden Co. Store, Leaving Shoppers Susceptible To Fraud

The device mimicked the keypad of a card reader, and it may have been there for a few days, police said.

PENNSAUKEN, NJ — A credit card skimmer was found Wednesday at a Camden County store, leaving recent customers at risk of fraud.

A skimmer was found Wednesday at Family Dollar (5043 N Route 130, Pennsauken), police said. The device (pictured above) was mounted over a card reader's existing keypad.

Police believe it was installed within the past few days.

Card skimmers are inconspicuous tools used to steal credit, debit and EBT card information. The devices are illegally placed at payment points such as ATMs and card readers to capture victims' personal data and PINs.

Offenders use that information to create fake cards and then steal from victims' accounts. Here's the FBI's info page.

If you recently used a debit or credit card at that Family Dollar, police recommend contacting your card provider and reviewing your account for unauthorized activity.
