Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued In Camden County

The forecast has resulted in some New Jersey towns postponing or canceling their Fourth of July celebrations.

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Weather officials placed Camden County under a severe thunderstorm watch Monday afternoon.

The thunderstorm watch began at 2:55 p.m. and remains in effect until 10 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The greatest threats include:

  • scattered gusts up to 75 mph (likely)
  • frequent lightning (possible)
  • isolated hail up to the size of ping pong balls (possible)

The severe thunderstorm watch applies to 13 New Jersey counties — primarily in the southern and central regions. Five counties in Noth Jersey are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m. Monday.

A few thunderstorms could be severe Tuesday afternoon, but the probability is low, the National Weather Service said Monday afternoon.

Here's the National Weather Service's forecast for Camden County as of 3 p.m. Monday:

  • Monday afternoon: Partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds. Hot. Near steady temperature in the upper 80s. West winds around 10 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.
  • Monday night: Mostly cloudy. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening, then a chance of showers after midnight. Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds in the evening. Locally heavy rainfall possible in the evening. Humid with lows in the lower 70s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.
  • Tuesday: Partly sunny. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds in the afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall possible in the afternoon. Hot with highs in the upper 80s. West winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.
  • Tuesday afternoon: Partly cloudy. Numerous showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds in the evening. Humid with lows in the upper 60s. West winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.
