West Football in Early Playoff Hunt

The Cherry Hill West football team isn’t just off to its best start in nearly a decade—the Lions are also right in the middle of the playoff hunt, going by the early power point rankings.

West, 2-1 for the first time since 2005, is currently tied for third in South Jersey, Group 4, along with Timber Creek, behind just Toms River South and Shawnee.

The group is currently a logjam of 2-1 teams—only Lacey is still undefeated—including perennial playoff teams Hammonton and Kingsway.

The Lions, who have never made the playoffs in school history, get a bye this week, but are back in action on the road against Seneca, which is currently 0-3, on Oct. 11.

The other two football teams that call the township home are in a tougher position at this point in the season—at 1-2 and 0-3, respectively, Camden Catholic and Cherry Hill East have an uphill battle the rest of the way.

The Irish currently stand fifth in Non-Public Group 2, which has just nine teams in the power points standings, while East is 14th in Group 5, which has a slew of two- and three-win teams already this season.
