Winter Storm Warning For South Jersey; Half-Foot Of Snow In Forecast

SOUTH JERSEY — A winter storm warning has been issued for inland South Jersey ahead of the upcoming storm. A half-foot of snow could accumulate Friday, peaking in the morning, according to weather officials.

The warning includes Camden, Gloucester, Salem and northwestern Burlington counties and is in effect from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) expects 5-6 inches of snow to accumulate during that period.

"Travel could be very difficult," the warning says. "The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute."

Temperatures will "rapidly" drop into the teens late Friday night, leaving untreated roads "icy and dangerous," the NWS said.

"If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency," the agency said. "The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1."

Snow will blanket the region Friday, peaking around 4-7 a.m., according to weather officials. Totals of 4-6 inches are predicted throughout much of inland South Jersey.

Here's the NWS's latest forecast for South Jersey:

  • Thursday night: A chance of snow, mainly after 3 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 27. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Friday: Snow. High near 32. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
  • Friday night: Snow likely, mainly before 11 p.m. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 15. Northwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Saturday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 26. Blustery, with a northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
  • Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
  • Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 30. Blustery.
