Winter Weather Advisory Issued For South Jersey Before Weekend Storm

Plan on slippery roads with mixed precipitation on the way.

SOUTH JERSEY — A winter weather advisory was issued for inland South Jersey ahead of this weekend's storm.

The advisory runs from noon Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday in Camden, Gloucester, Salem and northwestern Burlington counties.

Mixed precipitation is expected, including ice and up to an inch of snow and sleet accumulation, the National Weather Service said.

Precipitation is likely from Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning, according to the NWS's regional office in Mount Holly. Snow will change into a wintery mix before shifting overnight to all rain.

Frozen precipitation will reach peak intensity between 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday, starting south of Metro Philadelphia and shifting north, the NWS said.

Here's the National Weather Service's latest area forecast:

  • Friday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 24. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Saturday: Snow, mainly after 4 p.m. High near 34. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
  • Saturday night: Snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 1 a.m., then rain or freezing rain between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., then rain likely after 2 a.m. Low around 29. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 40. Northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
  • Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24.
