"Robert represented everything that was good about our sport and about being a man," the archery club said in a statement. "He graciously shared his knowledge, his friendship, and his smile with all of us who loved him and cared for him. He will be sorely missed."
He was also part of the Penn Del Archers — a club with a range in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. At both clubs, he loved practicing the craft while teaching and mentoring others as an instructor.
Born in Mount Holly, Montgomery graduated from Drexel University and became an engineer.
"His passion for his career was unmatched as he was always passionate to continue to learn," says his obituary, shared by Givnish Funeral Homes.
Montgomery also loved setting up hikes for his meet-up groups.
He was a loving partner, a beloved and devoted father, a treasured uncle to four and a "cherished Pop Pop" to two grandchildren, his obituary says.
"He will be remembered for his big heart, quiet strength, and unwavering support for those he loved," says the obituary.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Givnish of Cinnaminson (1200 Route 130 N). A service of remembrance and sharing will start at 11:30, and internment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Montgomery's loved ones encouraged donating in his memory for the Penn Del Archers and Black Knight Bowbenders.
