Erial Man Jumps Through Ceiling to Avoid Arrest

A 28-year-old Gloucester Township man was arrested early Tuesday morning after barricading himself in the attic of a home in the 2800 block of Erial Road and jumping through a sheetrock ceiling to evade police.

Jarae Lindsey was eventually subdued with an electric taser and a police dog. The ordeal took several hours and required assistance from the township tactical and crisis negotiation teams.

Lindsey was wanted on multiple arrest warrants, including resisting arrest during a domestic dispute the day before. He was spotted outside of the home on Erial Road around 11:30 p.m. Monday and retreated inside. 

Police established a perimeter around the house and a several-hour standoff ensued. A similar situation last week in Gloucester Township resulted in a suspect evading police during what was believed to be a barricade situation. That resulted in a four-school lockdown and the invasion of a local golf course before an arrest.

Not this time.

Lindsey was eventually found hiding under insulation in the attic after police entered the home. That's when he jumped through the ceiling before a police dog corralled him and a taser subdued him.

Multiple charges were filed against Lindsey for the barricade, his resistance and previous warrants. He was held at Camden County jail after being treated at a local hospital for injures he sustained while resisting arrest, police said.

No other injuries were reported.
