Friends, Family Attend Private Funeral for South Jersey's Christina Grimmie

A public viewing and funeral were scheduled for Friday.

Christina Grimmie’s family and friends gathered for a private, intimate funeral Thursday night in New Jersey, people.com reports.

The funeral was paid for by Maroon 5 star and Grimmie’s coach on NBC’s "The Voice," Adam Levine.

"We were worried about how we were going to pay for everything," Grimmie's cousin Nick Gargano said during a candlelight vigil in her honor at the Evesham Township Municipal Complex on Monday. "He really stepped up."

A public viewing and funeral was scheduled for Friday at Fellowship Alliance Chapel, 199 Church Road in Medford. The viewing was set for 3 p.m.-8 p.m., followed by the funeral at 8 p.m.

Grimmie is originally from Evesham Township, and attended Marlton Middle School and Cherokee High School before she moved to Los Angeles in 2012.

At Monday's vigil, she was remembered as a shy girl who was very humble.

"She never treated us any differently," Gargano said. “She was never a pop star. She was always our cousin. She worked hard, she loved what she did. She deserved more.”

The "Support the Grimmie Family" gofundme page had raised over $180,000 as of Friday afternoon.

Grimmie was shot and killed by 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl, of St. Petersburg, Florida while she signed autographs after a show at Orlando's Plaza Live theater Friday night. She was pronounced dead early Saturday morning.

Her brother, Marcus, tackled Loibl, as has been hailed as a hero for "preventing the further loss of human life," Orlando Police said.

No motive has been released in the murder.
