Herb Conaway Wins House Seat In NJ's 3rd Congressional District: AP

The longtime assemblyman is set to succeed Rep. Andy Kim, a fellow Democrat who won New Jersey's U.S. Senate election.

SOUTH JERSEY — Herb Conaway has been elected to the House, according to the Associated Press, which declared the longtime assemblyman as the winner of New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District.

Conaway was declared the winner early Wednesday morning. He's set to succeed Rep. Andy Kim, a fellow Democrat who won New Jersey's U.S. Senate election.

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, Conaway has received 52.9 percent of the vote, with 93 percent of ballots counted. Republican challenger Rajesh Mohan has 45 percent of the vote.

Conaway has been a state assemblyman since 1998 and currently serves as deputy speaker. His congressional term begins in January.

New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District includes portions of Burlington, Mercer and Monmouth counties.

93 percent of votes counted as of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday

  • Herb Conaway (Democratic): 190,238 (52.9 percent)
  • Rajesh Mohan (Republican): 161,946 (45 percent)
  • Steven Welzer (Green): 3,181 (0.9 percent)
  • Christopher Russomanno (Libertarian): 1,842 (0.5 percent)
  • Douglas Wynn (Why Not Wynn): 1,263 (0.3 percent)
  • Justin Barbera (Join The Revolution): 1,143 (0.3 percent)
