Man Accused Of Fatally Shooting Burlington Co. Resident Arrested In VA

The man was charged with first-degree murder in the June death of 38-year-old Derrick Adams​, prosecutors said.

BURLINGTON, NJ — Authorities have arrested a man in Virginia in connection with the fatal shooting of a man two months ago in Burlington County.

James H. McDowell Jr., 33, of Beverly, was taken into custody in Roanoke, Virginia, on Friday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of 38-year-old Derrick Adams, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement. He also faces several weapons charges.

The investigation into the killing began June 8 after officers from the City of Burlington Police Department responded to the area of Earl and Clarkson streets just after 5:30 a.m. for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they found a man on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Adams, a Burlington resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy performed by the Burlington County Medical Examiner's Office determined Adams died from multiple gunshot wounds.
