Man Beat His Mother To Death In BurlCo, Fled Scene In Her Car: Prosecutor

Family members found the victim's body at the home she shared with her son, authorities said.

BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A man was charged with murder after beating his mother to death last week at their shared home in Burlington County, authorities said.

Orsman Summerville lived with his mother, Enid Wordsworth, in Burlington Township.

On July 6, family members found Wordsworth's body inside her home on 100 block on Andre Court, authorities said. She was 72.

Investigators found that Summerville killed his mother and then fled the home in a vehicle she owned, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

Dr. Ian Hood, the county medical examiner, determined that Wordsworth was fatally bludgeoned.

The suspect was found July 7 after he got into a crash on Interstate 287 in Morris County, authorities said. He was hospitalized with injuries.

Summerville, 40, was charged Monday with first-degree murder while recovering at the hospital. He was served a warrant and taken into custody after being discharged on Tuesday.

The suspect was placed in the Burlington County Jail, with a detention hearing set for Friday.

Summerville didn't have a listed attorney in online court records on Wednesday.
