Man Indicted In Fatal Shooting Of NJ Teen At Gas Station

BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ — A Pennsylvania man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy at a Burlington County gas station that took place over the summer, authorities announced.

Tamir Phillips, 22, of Bensalem, has been indicted on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He is accused of shooting Jesse Everett, of Willingboro, as Everett sat inside a car at the Phillips 66 in the first block of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Willingboro on Aug. 2, authorities said. Read more here: Arrest Made In Fatal Shooting Of 14-Year-Old At NJ Gas Station

The car had been reported stolen one day earlier, authorities said. While Phillips didn't own the car, he did use it frequently, according to authorities.

Phillips was riding in a car with his girlfriend, 29-year-old Chelsea Holman of Willingboro, when they spotted the car at the gas station, according to authorities.

They pulled into the gas station, Phillips got out, and shot Everett once in the head before leaving the scene, authorities said. Two other people were in the car with Everett, but they were not injured, authorities said.

Everett was taken to Virtua Willingboro Hospital in a private car, authorities said. He was then airlifted to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, where he was pronounced dead at 5:24 p.m., authorities said.

Phillips was quickly identified as a suspect, and charges were filed on Aug. 3, according to authorities. He later surrendered to police and was lodged in Burlington County Jail.

Holman has been indicted on charges of third-degree hindering apprehension and fourth-degree obstruction of justice. She was not detained. See related: NJ 14-Year-Old Fatally Shot, Manhunt Underway: Police
