Man Killed In Police-Shooting Outside Home Identified: Report

A man who was killed outside his home in Millville last week has been identified as Daniel Ackley, nj.com reports.

MILLVILLE, NJ — A man who was killed in a police-involved shooting outside his South Jersey home has reportedly been identified as a 33-year-old Millville man.

Police were responding to an emergency at the home on Burns Road in Millville just before 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 when they encountered Daniel Ackley outside the home, nj.com reports.

During the encounter, an officer fatally shot Ackley, who has not yet been identified publicly by authorities. No details have been provided about what led to the shooting.

His online obituary describes Ackley as an Iraq War Army Veteran who graduated from Millville High School. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking, playing video games, military history, and volunteering at the Port Norris Baptist Church of which he was a lifetime member. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

The Attorney General's Office is conducting the investigation under a statute that requires it to investigate any death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer's official capacity or while the decedent is in custody, and which establishes clear standards and procedures for conducting such investigations.
