New Cinnaminson Sweets Shop Packed With Ice Cream, Desserts

CINNAMINSON, NJ — Before developing an ice cream and dessert shop in Cinnaminson, Hakki Yilmaz's first industry experience came halfway around the world in Saudi Arabia.

Yilmaz has worked several jobs in the United States and abroad. Now, he has his own place to serve treats: Sweeties & Cream, which opened last May.

A Turkey native, Yilmaz initially worked in a sweets shop in Saudi Arabia, near the nation's border with Bahrain. He moved to the U.S. 4.5 years ago, attending college to develop his English skills. His journey to opening Sweeties included a number of jobs, including construction and driving for Uber and Lyft.

A storefront opened up in the same Route 130 complex as Starbucks and AT&T. That's where Yilmaz found the opportunity to open a sweets shop.

"We’re not just an ice cream shop," Yilmaz told Patch. "Here you can get good ice cream, good bakery (items) and good desserts."

Sweeties offers a wide variety — from ice cream to pastries to American, Turkish and Eastern European desserts. Some of the biggest hits include the Hershey's ice cream and baklava.

But the menu continues to expand, Yilnaz says. The store currently has 20 flavors of Hershey's ice cream, but Yilnaz expects to have 28 next week. And the row of desserts in the glass display case will also grow larger.

Sweeties & Cream (1253 Route 130 S) is open daily from 12-10 p.m.
