BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ — Assembly Member Carol Murphy has won the Democratic primary in New Jersey's 7th legislative district, while incumbent Balvir Singh and primary challenger Eric Holliday continued competing for the second spot on Tuesday night, according to the Associated Press.

At that time, fewer than 1,000 votes separated Singh (8,877) and Holliday (8,050), according to the AP.

Singh, a former Burlington County commissioner, was selected for State Assembly in January to fill the vacancy created by Herb Conaway's election to Congress. Members of the Burlington County Democratic Committee voted for Singh in a special election.

Holliday, Bordentown's mayor, ran as the primary challenger.

On the Republican side, Dione Johnson and Doug Dillon had an uncontested primary.

The primary winners will advance to the General Election on Nov. 4, which will also include any third-party or independent candidates who enter the race.

All State Assembly seats are up for election this year — as is the New Jersey governorship, which is slated for a showdown between Rep. Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat, and former Assembly Member Jack Ciattarelli for the GOP.

District 7, which includes Burlington County's riverside communities, has elected Democrats to the Assembly for the past quarter-century.

The results remain unofficial until certified on a later date.
