Rowan College Mourns Burlington Co. Trustee Emeritus Ronald Winthers
Winthers, an advocate for community colleges across the state and nation, joined the college's Board of Trustees in 1991.
MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — Ronald D. Winthers, a Rowan College at Burlington County trustee emeritus and longtime community college advocate, has died at the age of 70.
The college announced Winthers' death on Monday.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Winthers, whose service to the college, and to community colleges across the state and the nation, will be remembered and celebrated," RCBC said in a Facebook post.

Winthers, a longtime Willingboro resident, was appointed to the college's Board of Trustees in 1991, and supported the strategic expansion to Mount Laurel and The Culinary Arts Center in Mount Holly. He became the college's 16th Trustee Emeritus in August of 2015, Patch reported at the time.
Winthers was an advocate for community colleges across the state and nation as a leader on the Association of Community College Trustees’ Board of Directors, where he was awarded a lifetime membership, and Chair of the New Jersey Council of County Colleges from 2008 to 2011.

In 2011, the Council created the Ronald D. Winthers Trustee Leadership Award in his honor to recognize visionary leadership by a New Jersey community college trustee at the local, state and national levels.
May Funeral Homes lists a viewing Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 12 from 9-10 a.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church (134 North White Horse Pike, Lawnside NJ). A funeral service is Thursday at 10 a.m. at the church, with burial at Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson.
