Tax Hike Included in Township Budget

Cinnaminson Township Committee will adopt the budget next month. Township officials offered no details on the spending plan when it was introduced last week.

Cinnaminson residents will face a tax hike in the $13.5 million budget introduced by township committee.

The township is proposing raising $8.9 million through taxation in the 2013 budget—about $500,000 more than in 2012. The $13.5 million budget represents a roughly $600,000 increase from the budget adopted last year.

The tax rate will increase by 3¢, from 43 to 46¢, according to the Burlington County Times, raising municipal taxes on a homeowner assessed at the township average—$290,000—by $87 (not including school, fire or county taxes).

Township administrator Frank Locantore refused to comment on the budget, despite repeated attempts by Patch to obtain information through email and phone messages, and also refused a request in person for more information. He explained that comment on the budget would be reserved for a public hearing, at which the budget will be adopted, on June 17.

The budget is available for public viewing at the municipal building.
