6-Year-Old Union Co. Girl Fighting Brain Cancer Needs Community's Help

A GoFundMe has been launched to support the family of 6-year-old Camy Dudek who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A GoFundMe was recently launched to help Camy Dudek, a 6-year-old from Union, who is currently fighting brain cancer.

Camy's family is in need of help from the community, as medical bills have started to roll in while Camy receives treatment for her diagnosis. The community has already raised $1,335 within one day, but the family is still looking for more donations.

Kim Vitale, the creator of the GoFundMe, wrote that Camy is "spunky, sweet and a warrior." Camy is also a twin and has two older brothers.

"Their world has just been turned upside down," Vitale wrote. "Camy was diagnosed with brain cancer. Medical bills have already started rolling in, as well as complications. Camy will need further treatment which will require her parents to be away from her three other siblings."

Vitale said any donation will help lighten the load for the Dudek family.

Robynn Resigner Dudek, Camy's mother, wrote on the GoFundMe August 12 that after further genetic and molecular testing at St. Jude's, doctors found some parts of Camy's tumor to be Grade 3 (malignant) instead of Grade 2 (benign).

"The problem with this is that since every marker is not Grade 3 she may not qualify for the current clinical trials," Dudek wrote. "One of her oncologists has already started reaching out to MSK, John Hopkins and RWJ Children's for other medical opinions."

Dudek said they are still moving ahead with embolization. This is a procedure that uses particles, such as tiny gelatin sponges or beads, to block a blood vessel. Embolization may be used to stop bleeding or to block the flow of blood to a tumor or abnormal area of tissue, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Dudek said after embolization, doctors will hopefully be able to resect the tumor.

"Proton therapy radiation is on our future and we will know more at the end of the month," Dudek wrote. "Luckily our little chicken wing is a warrior princess! At 6 she has more strength than most adults! My little cookie will never fight alone, WE GOT THIS!"
