Clark Police Remember Officer Who Was Killed On Duty July 4th

Clark Police honored Patrolman William J. Waterson with a memorial on Monday. The officer was shot and killed 51 years ago.

CLARK, NJ — On July 4, 51 years ago, Clark Patrolman William J. Waterson was shot and killed on duty.

Clark Police posted on Facebook Monday, in honor of Waterson — also known as "Rabbit" — to remember him for his "ultimate sacrifice."

Clark Police remember Waterson every year with a memorial in front of CPD Headquarters. The memorial was held on Monday.

According to a post from Westfield Police, Waterson was shot and killed after he and his partner interrupted a robbery in progress at a motel on Central Avenue, next to the Garden State Parkway.

The suspect then fled on foot to a nearby parking lot where he ambushed Waterson as he searched the area.
