Nursing Home Workers Plan To Picket Complete Care At Clark

The workers plan to protest unfair labor practices and the loss of their health insurance, retirement benefits and holidays on Tuesday.

CLARK, NJ — A group of nursing home workers with 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East — the largest healthcare union in the U.S. — are set to picket Complete Care at Clark on Tuesday.

The nursing home employees plan to protest unfair labor practices and the loss of their health insurance, retirement benefits, holidays and sick days at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Complete Care at Clark was formerly Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center before it was acquired. Complete Care is the largest operator of nursing homes in New Jersey.

The health network has previously been accused of cutting workers' benefits, including health insurance, retirement, holidays and sick days, after it takes over an institution.

This was seen in Nov. of 2021 when nursing facility workers in Burlington County initiated a 24-hour strike to protest poor working conditions, as well as a significant reduction in benefits stemming from Complete Care's acquisition of the facility in Marcella earlier in the spring.

According to 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, Complete Care has already eliminated the Clark workers' health insurance and retirement plans and drastically reduced their holidays and sick days.

The informational picket will be led by direct caregivers, including nurses, certified nursing assistants and dietary workers who are members of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.

Complete Care at Clark is located on 1213 Westfield Ave.
