Pop-Up Pool Party Planned For Union County, Police Warn
Police said they will be monitoring the area for any mass gatherings and such events will 'not be tolerated.'
UNION COUNTY, NJ — The "pop-up party" scene has migrated to Union County, as Roselle Police Department warned residents on Sunday about a potential pop-up house pool party in town.
Pop-up parties, involving large gatherings of people, have recently been planned for beach towns in South Jersey, such as Point Pleasant Beach and Long Branch. One man even posted on social media about how he would be bringing a gun to one of these gatherings.
These pop-up parties were ultimately cancelled as police warned that anyone in attendance may be prosecuted.

Organizers of the parties have used social media apps, such as TikTok and Instagram, to spread the word about these mass gatherings. Police, however, have warned that these events can be dangerous and cause destruction in towns.

Roselle Police posted on Facebook Sunday that had taken the "necessary steps" in deterring the pop-up pool party from happening and coordinated with surrounding jurisdictions in the event a large crowd gathers.
Police said they spoke with the Roselle homeowner who allows a friend to use his pool and was unaware of the potential magnitude of the promoted party. Police also notified surrounding neighbors about the planned event.
"We will not tolerate these events and will issue all necessary summons, holding the property owner accountable," Roselle Police wrote.
In addition, police said there was misinformation spreading on social media, linking this event to the Long Branch one.
"We have found no evidence corroborating this," Roselle Police said. "The locations this individual has used has been in the North Jersey area, not the shore."
In another Union County town, Westfield Police recently warned residents about a "Big Group Gathering" that was planned for Mindowaskin Park on Friday. This event was being promoted via Snapchat, according to police.
