Collingswood FD Assists in Camden Inferno

Ladder 16 was sent out Saturday morning to assist in a two-story warehouse fire in the 600 block of Kaighns Avenue in Camden.

The was called into action Saturday as a mid-morning fire intensified in the 600 block of Kaighns Avenue in Camden City.

The two-story burn was instantly upgraded to a two-alarm threat by Camden firefighters upon their arrival to the scene.

β€œIt was a warehouse on fire when I pulled up,” said Camden City Battalion Chief Andy Magee.

Less than half an hour later, the fire had escalated to a three-alarm blaze, and a call for back-up went out to several neighboring communities.

In response, Collingswood dispatched a ladder truck and four firefighters, all of whom returned safely. No one was reported injured as a result of the fire.

Collingswood has mutual aid agreements with Camden and its other neighbors to assist one another in such cases, said Lt. Robert Fox of the borough fire department.

β€œWe have an agreement going in to assist the surrounding towns,” Fox said, β€œWe go when they have a multi-alarm fire, and they would come in when we have one.”

Fox confirmed that the Camden City fire marshal is investigating the scene to determine its cause and origin in keeping with state regulations. He did not have any information as to whether authorities had any suspicions of wrongdoing in the incident.
