Collingswood Middle School Students Take Part In Choral Festival

Five local students performed at this year's festival.

On Saturday, March 4, 2023, five Collingswood Middle School students participated in the 40th Annual South Jersey Elementary Choral Festival held at Washington Township High School. The festival brought together more than 100 singers in grades 4-6 to perform together in a large choral ensemble. Collingswood Public School District recognizes 6th grade singers Natalie McAvinney, Isabel Ospina, Katherine Steinmacher, Emma Wilcox and Juliet Willson for their participation. In order to prepare for the festival, the students have been rehearsing on their own time together after school over the last two months.

Mr. Charles Hartung, Performing Arts Coordinator for Collingswood Public Schools and Choir Director at Collingswood Middle School, also serves as the 2022-2023 Junior High Conductor. He frequently directs, conducts, and accompanies various youth musical theater productions in the area, including performances through Collingswood Youth Theatre, The Ritz Theatre Company, Teen Arts Guild, and Triple Threat Performing Arts. He has served as guest conductor of the choir for Grace Episcopal Church in Haddonfield, NJ and conducted the Central Jersey Intermediate Treble Chorus in March 2020.

Congratulations to Mr. Hartung and our CMS students who put in the time to prepare for this exciting event. Collingswood is very fortunate to have such talented and dedicated individuals representing our district,” stated Dr. Fred McDowell, superintendent of Collingswood Public School District.

The 40th Annual South Jersey Elementary Choral Festival was organized by the South Jersey Choral Directors' Association, Inc., an association that strives to foster and promote choral singing in order to provide artistic and aesthetic experiences for students, as well as the intelligent understanding of all types of choral music.
