Collingswood Offers Entertainment Galore in the Week Ahead

From Farm Fresh Restaurant Week to multiple live performances, this week is the week to go out in the borough.

If you're looking for things to do in Collingswood, the award-winning, Saturday morning farmers market is always a good place to start.

But the market takes center stage this week in the restaurant world of Collingswood as well, with Farm Fresh Restaurant Week, with "multi-course meals prepared...using farm fresh ingredients from the Collingswood Farmers' Market," according to the borough.

Whether you're a fan of Nunzio, Tortilla Press, That's Amore, Casona or IndeBlue, you can find a special menu for $30 to $35 a person through Saturday.

On Tuesday, July 23, Collingswood Summer Youth Theatre kicks off its 19th season with opening night of The Little Mermaid, a teen production based on the Hans Christian Andersen story.

Performances run at 7:30 p.m. nightly, Tuesday through Thursday, with a 1 p.m. Friday matinee, all at the air-conditioned Collingswood Middle School auditorium. Tickets are $6 apiece.

There's also the monthly meeting of the Collingswood Movie Club, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Collingswood Library. Led by movie blogger Robert Castle, the film presented Tuesday will be 1966's Blow-Up, directed by Michelangelo Antonioni and starring David Hemmings and Vanessa Redgrave.

Castle calls it "an essential if not quintessential film from the 1960s.

"Hemmings is a photographer who has to come to grips with what is and is not real in his world of mod London," he said. "More so, the viewer must come to grips with what is going on this film. Special treat: an appearance by the Yardbirds when Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page were members of that great blues band."

More entertainment comes your way on Wednesday, July 24, when the Collingswood Community Theatre production of Avenue Q kicks off its three-performance run. The shows will run at 7:30 p.m. through Friday at the Scottish Rite Theater.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors; groups of 10 or more can buy them for $13 each. Tickets are available at Borough Hall—or you could find them throughout the shops downtown.

There's also a Summer Mummers concert on Powell Lane in downtown Collingswood. Get there at 7 for the Quaker City String Band, and bring your own chair. Weather permitting.

At 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 26, stop by the summertime-themed karaoke at Grooveground and cool off with a refreshing drink and some fun tunes.

Then, on Saturday, July 27, you can leave the kids with some "free and background-checked child care" at the Collingswood Community Center, courtesy of liberti church Collingswood. Have cocktails and a parenting discussion at 4 p.m. followed by dinner at Thai Basil. R.S.V.P. by Wednesday.
