Collingswood firefighter Kevin Ehret sets the record straight on the flag flying at the entrance to town.
Last week, reader sparked some discussion here that the American flag that tops the Route 130 entry into Collingswood was missing in action.
βIt would really be sad if we did not have a flag flying in Collingswood for the Memorial Day weekend,β he wrote. βHoping that someone here on the Patch can render some help!β
Collingswood firefighter Kevin Ehret, who, with retired Lt. Steve Jack, had a hand in the installation of the flagpole, saw Ronβs note and gave us a call.

The flag is removed from the flagpole seasonally, Ehret says, because the wintry New Jersey weather takes its toll on Old Glory. Such was the case with the flag removed a season ago, which Ehret says suffered wind damage and is in for repairs.
Nonetheless, he says, the borough fire department replaces the 30β x 50β standard every year for Memorial Day.
