$3K Raised For Union Co. School District In 'Stuff The Bus' Fundraiser

An Applebee's in Linden collected $3,000 worth of school supplies and cash ahead of the back-to-school season.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — The Doherty-owned Applebee's restaurant in Linden partnered with the local school district to collect school supplies for students during Doherty Enterprises' annual "Stuff The Bus" school supply drive event.

Around $3,000 worth of cash and school supplies combined were raised for the Linden School District on Aug. 24.

Doherty-Owned Applebee’s in Florida, and Long Island, N.Y. also partnered with area school districts for the "Stuff The Bus" fundraiser.

Each year, the program kicks off in the summer and runs for one week, as individual restaurants collect as many school supplies as possible. I

n addition to much needed classroom supplies, Doherty-owned Applebee’s donate proceeds from special Flapjack Breakfast fundraisers hosted by participating partner organizations like the Salvation Army and United Way.

On the final day of the school supply drive, Applebee’s team members will “stuff the bus” with all donated items collected, as well as donate 10 percent of all restaurant sales that day.

“Our company has a very long heritage of supporting the communities we serve, and this program holds a special place in our heart, because we understand the important role school supplies make in helping students succeed,” said Tim Doherty, President of Doherty Enterprises, and owner of the participating Applebee’s restaurants. “We take great pride in helping the future leaders of tomorrow!”

Applebee's restaurants in Hackettstown, Garfield, Woodbridge and Manahawkin also participated in the fundraiser.
