'An Accident Waiting To Happen': Cranford Unveils New Safety Features Near Adams Park

Kids use the area to play and take part in athletic events regularly.

CRANFORD, NJ — Safety upgrades for walkers and drivers in the area around Adams Park are now complete.

New crosswalks, including one raised crosswalk, new sidewalks, and ADA ramps are now installed as part of an effort to be proactive in an area that sees a lot of foot traffic on a regular basis.

"This is an area that has the softball fields, two playgrounds, a school, and a condo complex down the road," said Commissioner Brian Andrews, "and previously there was not a single sidewalk, there were no crosswalks, making the area very dangerous and, I think, an accident waiting to happen."

"It's nice to see some improvement for the safety, especially for the younger siblings who are constantly running back and forth across the street going to and from the playground to their parents and the concession stand," Dennis Geier, a Cranford softball coach, added.

The Adams Park renovations were supported by the Cranford Pedestrian Safety Improvement Fund which was instituted two years ago as part of the capital budget process. New Jersey Department of Transportation funding also went towards the project.
