To the Editor:

I want to urge citizen support for the election of Kevin Illing to the Cranford Township Committee.

Kevin is a serious minded resident who has volunteered his time and energy to numerous civic efforts. For example, he has served as Secretary of the Cranford Planning Board for several years and has helped to guide the completion of the community's first master plan in 30 years.  Kevin is a successful businessman who has been instrumental at maintaining the historic Droeschers Mill. I believe, Kevin who has met hundreds of citizens at their doors in his campaign, will be a responsive and trustworthy representative.

The Township Committee operates best when it has political balance.  There are too many issues the current governing board has had failed judgment on.  Kevin for example spoke out against the Mayor's plan to cut public safety in a community that holds our safety as the highest priority.  This was done at a time when the Mayor  obligated Cranford to an almost $1 million new field in the deepest recession in our lifetime.  Kevin has also been a forceful opponent against the current Mayor's limited effort to oppose a settlement with developers who want to build up to 700 new housing units here.

I believe a vote for Kevin would be a vote for his sincerity, pride in his community and concern for what is  best for taxpayers and Cranford's future.

Sincerely,

Dan Aschenbach
Township Committee member
