Barking Dogs Scare Off Holiday Intruders In Cranford, Police Say

Two homes were targeted.

CRANFORD, NJ — Two homes in Cranford were targeted by thieves trying to break into the property on Christmas morning, the Cranford Police Department said.

At around 6 a.m., police responded to the 100 block of Cranford Avenue and the 300 block of Elizabeth Avenue.

In both cases, the residents were home, and their dogs in the houses scared off the approaching parties.

There has also been a rise in car thefts in multiple neighboring communities recently, according to Cranford Police.

High-end cars are common targets. Residents are also reminded to lock not only their cars, but also their homes, overnight. Keyfobs should also be removed from parked cars.

Security cameras should also be checked regularly to make sure they operate properly.
