Cranford Baseball Wins Union County Tournament Title

The Cougars defeated Westfield 8-0 on Sunday, making them the county champs for the eighth year in a row.


On Sunday afternoon the No. 2 seeded Cranford Boys Varsity Baseball team defeated Westfield 8-0 in the Union County Tournament. 

Cranford has won each of their Union County Tournament match ups since 1999. Of the 60 years the tournament has existed, this is the eighth title for Cranford who is tied with Union for the second most wins behind Westfield who holds 13, according to NJ.com.

Cranford who is 17-0 for the season scored the first run in the fourth inning of the game, followed by another four runs. In the sixth inning, the team managed to score another three runs and knocked out Westfield’s started Kevin Galasso, according to NJ.com.

Some notable plays for Cranford include: Center fielder Tommy Trotter went 3-for-4 scoring a run and driving in an RBI. First baseman Alex Plick went 2-for-3 scoring a run and and driving in an RBI and both designated hitter Albert Gargiulo and right fielder Andrew DiFrancesco drove in two RBI's each.
