Pedestrian Crash Ends In Charges For Cranford Man: Police
The crash occurred on Oct. 14 when a resident was hit by a car while walking on a crosswalk in Cranford, police said.
CRANFORD, NJ — After a two-week investigation, a Cranford man was charged in connection with hitting another resident with his car on Oct. 14.
The crash occurred at around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Miln Street and Alden Street, Cranford Police said. Detective John Rattigan of the Cranford Police Traffic Bureau found that the pedestrian, a 58-year-old Cranford resident, was hit by a gray Hyundai while walking within a marked crosswalk on Miln Street.
The resident was rushed to University Hospital in Newark with injuries, police said.

The driver of the Gray Hyundai was identified as Akhil Patel, 45, of Cranford who remained on scene and cooperated with this investigation, according to police.
Patel was issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, careless driving and driving while suspended, police said.

A certified abstract from the State of New Jersey later demonstrated that Patel was actively suspended for multiple offenses, police said. As a result, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office approved a criminal charge against Patel for 4th degree operation of a vehicle with a license suspended for driving while intoxicated.
On Thursday. Oct. 27 Patel was charged, processed and released pending a superior court appearance date, according to police.
