CRANFORD, NJ - The Cranford Police Department is getting parents and students ready with safety tips for the new school year that begins next week.
Ahead of the first full day of the school year on Sept. 4, officers are encouraging a safe environment both inside, and outside, of the buildings. This includes monitoring safety of drivers and bicyclists coming to and from school grounds.
Cranford Police say they are using a decoy officer to carry out pedestrian safety checkpoints in multiple areas throughout town. Just last week, a number of drivers who failed to stop for people crossing the street were pulled over. Pedestrians who crossed against a proper signal or without using a crosswalk were also stopped.
