Cranford Schools Move To Virtual Learning First Week Of January

CRANFORD, NJ — Cranford Public Schools announced it will transition to fully remote instruction from Monday, Jan. 3 through Friday, Jan. 7 due to a lack of staffing.

In an letter sent to the Cranford Public School community, Superintendent Scott Rubin said there is inadequate staffing to operate the schools for in-person learning because of "required quarantining."

Rubin said the district will further assess the situation at the end of the remote learning period, and they hope to return to full-day, in-person instruction on Monday, Jan. 10.

There will be a delayed opening on Monday, Jan. 3 to allow time for staff to prepare and allow times for parents/guardians to pick up devices — primarily grades K-2 — and materials at their child's respective school.

The following is the delayed opening schedule for the various Cranford Schools.

Students who qualify for free and reduced lunch will be able to receive a grab-and-go lunch at their respective school during their regular lunch time period.

All extracurricular activities — including athletics — will be paused this week while the district is fully remote.

"The pandemic continues to be very challenging for everyone," Rubin wrote. "It is critically important that we continue to be empathetic and sympathetic towards one another. Teaching remotely is very difficult for teachers and learning this way can be very frustrating for students, as well as parents/guardians. I ask everyone for their patience and flexibility as we work through this temporary situation."

Respective principals will be reaching out to families soon to provide additional guidance, according to the letter.
