Cranford Stormwater Project Meeting Coming Soon, Town Says

Updates regarding Cranford's pending stormwater flooding mitigation project will be provided at an upcoming neighborhood meeting.

CRANFORD, NJ - Updates regarding Cranford’s pending stormwater flooding mitigation project will be provided at an upcoming neighborhood meeting, township officials said.

The Edgar and Kensington Stormwater Project, a “major” drainage improvement project, will see the upgrading of some pipes from 18”to 27” and increase the size of the catch basins, officials said in a newsletter statement earlier this month. “Tests pits have been done; materials expected 8-12 weeks,” the statement read.

Township officials are poised to schedule a neighborhood meeting about the project in late March or early April, according to the newsletter.

Last year, the Flood Advisory Committee was redesigned into two subcommittees, including the Stormwater Infrastructure Subcommittee and the State-Regional Planning Subcommittee. Chaired by Patrick Giblin, the latter committee is in talks with the Rahway River Mayors Council regarding a regional flood control project by the US Army Corp of Engineers.

“We understand there is a great deal of work to be done throughout town, that’s why we are tackling flooding on various fronts instead of just relying on a regional solution,” former Cranford Mayor Miller Prunty said in a statement last year. “We believe that every improvement will make a difference and Cranford can be addressing issues while the US Army Corp of Engineers is working on a major flood control project.”
