Cranford's Giaccio Makes Wrestling Quarters

Wins two matches to keep state title hopes alive.

Cranford 119-pounder Joe Giaccio won two matches to lead the way for the squad on Friday in the Atlantic City State wrestling championships on Friday.

Giaccio defeated West Essex's Mike Marotti, 12-4, in the preliminary round, and then Bergen Catholic's Michael Maye, 8-2, in the pre-quarters. Giaccio will now wrestle in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Cranford's Matt DiGiovanni and J.P. Christiano will wrestle in Saturday's wrestlebacks. DiGiovanni (145) fell to Ray Bethea of Trenton Central, 2-1, in the pre-quarterfinals after a preliminary bye. Christiano (160) fell to Alex Cimiluca of Glen Rock Saddle Brook, also after a bye.

Kyle Markovitch (130) lost to Vinnie Leone of Marlboro, 9-6, in the preliminary round, and was eliminated from the tournament.
