To the Editor:

I would like to urge everyone to participate in the family friendly bike ride that will take place on Sunday, November 8.  The ride, which is sponsored by the Cranford Recreation and Parks Department, will start at 9:00 a.m. from the parking lot next to Cervantes of Spain.  The police department will escort the riders along the five-mile route that will proceed around Nomahegan Park.

I see this as another step in making a more sustainable and healthy community.  Earlier this year a Green Team was formed as an extension of the Environmental Commission.  It is responsible for developing and implementing actions to help Cranford achieve the Sustainable Jersey certification.  To do this, we must implement specific actions.  These demonstrate our intention to go green, save money, and take steps to sustain a quality of life over the long term.  This bike ride is an example of this type of action.  The Green Team is planning further actions to encourage residents to learn more about the benefits of bike riding.

The Green Team will hold it first lecture in a continuing series sponsored by the Cranford Public Library on Thursday, November 12 at 7:30 in the Community Center.  It is entitled Green Currency and the Green Team leader, Mary Reilly, will present practical ways to measure and improve our impact on the global climate.  I hope that you can attend.
