The Theater Project presents a benefit event featuring a staged reading of Christopher Durang's comedy "For Whom The Southern Belle Tolls."
The two performances will take place at The Theater Project at Union County College on January 29 at 8 p.m. and January 30 at 3 p.m.
Tickets can be reserved by calling The Theater Project at 908-659-5189. Information is also available at www.thetheaterproject.org. The suggested donation is $25 and includes post-performance refreshments and interaction with The Theater Project's company of actors and creative staff.
The staged reading will feature Gail Lou as Southern belle Amanda
Wingvalley. An accomplished actress, recording artist, songwriter and
musical director, Gail recently performed off-Broadway as Lena Horne in "Mama I Want to Sing." She will be joined by Theater Project company members, including Harry Patrick Christian.
In this hilarious parody of Tennessee Williams' classic drama "The
Glass Menagerie," Christopher Durang brilliantly satires the tale of
former Southern Belle, Amanda Wingvalley, as she struggles to marry
off her sensitive and hypochondriac son, Lawrence. Terrified of people, Lawrence plays with his collection of glass cocktail stirrers
while Amanda sets her plan in motion with Ginny, the hard of hearing
and overly friendly feminine caller.
All proceeds from this Benefit Event help support The Theater Project's 2010 efforts to continue producing new works and contemporary classics. An award-winning Associate Member of the New Jersey Theater Alliance, The Theater Project is recognized for its
color-blind casting policy and provocative "actor's view of theater"
seating where the audience literally sits on-stage with the actors
where the action is.
