Expect Closures On Rt. 28 Due To Union Co. Resurfacing Project: NJDOT
The shoulder on a portion of Route 28 and other lane closures are scheduled for May and late summer due to the roadway repairs, NJDOT said.
UNION COUNTY, NJ — Due to a resurfacing project in Union County, New Jersey Department of Transportation officials announced there will be daytime shoulder closures on Route 28.
Beginning at 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Shifano Construction Corp., is scheduled to close the shoulder on a portion of Route 28 between Hetfield Avenue in Scotch Plains and Grove Street in Cranford.
The closures are necessary for resetting manholes, according to NJDOT. No parking will be allowed in the work zone and temporary traffic shifts may be necessary.

Work will continue daily, 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.Monday through Friday to repair inlets and curbs for a few months, NJDOT said.
Later in the summer, there will be overnight lane closures for paving work. NJDOT will provide advanced notice before any lane closures.

This work is part of a $8.2 million state-funded maintenance project to make roadway repairs on Route 28 in Union, Warren, Sussex, Bergen and Hudson counties.
Work includes upgrading inlets and curbs, adding rumble strips and milling and paving. The project is expected to be completed in the fall 2022.
Variable messaging signs are being used to provide advance notification to drivers of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to
change due to weather or other factors, according to NJDOT.
