‘Major’ Cranford NJ American Water Project Starts This Week
10,000 feet of aging 6-inch cast iron water main is slated to be replaced in Cranford over the next few months, the utility company said.
CRANFORD, NJ - A “major” infrastructure is coming to Cranford over the next few months, and residents should expect road closures and detours in active construction areas, authorities said.
The project, conducted by New Jersey American Water, is slated to begin Monday, Cranford police announced in a Nixle alert.
“We’re replacing 10,000 feet of aging 6-inch cast iron water main that was installed in the 1920s with new 8- and 12-inch ductile iron main,” NJ American Water said in a statement.

“The pipeline project will help improve water service reliability and increase water flows for household use and firefighting.”
The work is set to be conducted along all or portions of Orange Avenue, Prospect Avenue, Arbor Street/ Sutton Lane, Sylvester Street, Claremont Place and Casino Avenue.

Work is expected to be completed within about five months, weather permitting, NJ American Water said.
Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Final street restorations are set to be finished in late summer or early fall of 2023.
