Man Attempts to Use False ID to Withdraw $4K from Cranford Bank, Police Say

A Bronx man attempted to withdraw $4,000 from a Chase Bank in Cranford on May 14 by allegedly using a false identity.

Police were called to the South Avenue Chase around 3 p.m. when a teller noticed Erick Vargas, 27, behaving suspiciously, police said. Ptl. Nelso Hearns arrested Vargas and he was charged with forgery, impersonation, theft by deception and false government documents.

According to Cranford PD, Vargas was arrested, processed and transferred to Union County Jail where he was held on $15,000 bail pending a Superior Court appearance.
